After a fanless 2020, the US Open is opening up its gates once again to (vaccinated) fans for the 2021 edition. The fans might be back, but a number of legends won’t be joining them as injuries have plagued some of our favorites over the past few months. However, the show must go on, and the final slam of the year is set up to be one of the most exciting this year with history on the line and trophies ready to be lifted there is going to be plenty to watch for over the fortnight.
Coverage for the US Open will shift over to ESPN Networks first ball to last ball. As a reminder, ESPN Plus will stream majority of the outer courts and requires a separate subscription. The cost also increased to 7.99/month; however, you can cancel at any time. From a personal perspective, I have signed up (and subsequently cancelled) ESPN Plus for each of the slams and found it worth the price to be able to catch all the matches going on around the grounds. ESPN 3, which requires a cable subscription, will also air certain courts/matches. As for television, ESPN and ESPN 2 will split coverage with a day and night session coverage block each day. If you miss any of the action, Tennis Channel will air nightly replays, as well as air a daily live preview show from the US Open grounds at 10am (EST).
You can check out the full guide below, so it’s time to start prepping those Honey Deuces and kick up your feet and enjoy the tennis!
On a slightly related note, I wanted to thank everyone for the positive feedback on my post about returning to live tennis at the Western and Southern Open. I would also like to thank my good friend Janina (@jlr78), who also co-hosts the Realz Tenis Podcast, for editing it for me. If you are attending the US Open this year, I would love to hear from you on your experiences attending tennis again and welcome any fan posts to the page!
